We aim to educate young Kiwis about the Commonwealth and its values. We organise events and workshops that help young people develop leadership skills and tackle issues they care about. Our goal is to empower the next generation of leaders, making sure they have the tools and confidence to make a difference in the world.

  • No. CYNZ has worked with Members of Parliament from many different parties, and our leadership brings several different perspectives to the table.

    The principles we do promote are embedded in the Commonwealth. These are democracy and good governance, respect for human rights and gender equality, poverty eradication and sustainable, people-centred development, and to promote arts and culture.

  • CYNZ is a subsidiary of the Royal Commonwealth Society (RCS).

    Our Board governs over the organisation and makes sure that decisions of the EC reflect the goals of CYNZ and values of the Commonwealth.

    Our EC is the centre of operations and is responsible for events, campaigns, outreach, and all of our other work. It is led by young people for young people.

  • CYNZ is involved in almost all areas of Commonwealth activity in Aotearoa. Every year, we hold Common Leaders' Day, a youth leadership focused event for high school students. We often organise events with High Commissions, local Government, and various other institutions.

    We also play a role in communicating Commonwealth-related news to a younger audience.

  • Yes! We are always looking for young people to join our dynamic Executive Committee.

    We are a team of mostly university students, but open to any young person. We share tasks based on the diverse skill-sets we bring to the table. Tasks include: planning, organising, and running events, designing social media content and printable posters, updating the website, building relationships with stakeholders, managing finances, responding to emails, etc.

    Being an Executive Committee member is a volunteer role of approx. 2 hours a week, and is a deeply rewarding role that teaches invaluable skills you can carry into your professional career.
